A city court on Friday fined Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray Rs 500 for not appearing before it in connection with a hearing in a case of allegedly `provocative' write-up that appeared in party mouthpiece `Saamna'.

The sessions court also gave him an ultimatum to be present before it on August 21 failing which it would pass an ex-parte order in the case.
