Tibetan women took out a rally on Wednesday protesting against Chinese atrocities in Tibet, while commemorating the 54th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day.
Tibetan women under the banner of the Regional Tibetan Women's Association (RTWA) in northern Dharamsala town took out the rally as they walked with banners and placards denouncing the Chinese oppression in Tibet.
This year marks the 54 years of the failed uprising that saw Tibetans rise up against Chinese occupation in 1959.
On March 10, 1959, Tibetans living in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, rebelled against Chinese control, and the failed uprising forced Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to flee into exile in India.
Most of the women who gathered for the protest rally were school girls and female Buddhist monks who actively participated in it and shouted slogans against China.
"I want to give this message that please do something for Tibet. There are so many people who are suffering the tortures of China in Tibet. So, please do something for the Tibetans who are suffering there," said Tenzin Dolkar, vice president of the regional Tibetan Women's Association (RWTA).
The decision to mark March 10 also as Martyrs Day was taken during the second general meeting jointly convened by the Kashag Tibetan cabinet in exile and the Tibetan parliament last year.
More than 100 Tibetans have set themselves alight in protest against Chinese rule since 2009.
