Reeling under the massive devastation caused by the giant tidal waves, Tamil Nadu government has proposed construction of a wall at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore to protect the state's coastal line from the sea fury.
Emerging from an hour-long meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa told reporters on Friday that her government has made a special request was made for the construction of the wall along the 1076-km coastline between Chennai and Kanyakumari at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore.
The Chief Minister said the Prime Minister indicated that the Centre would consider taking a loan from World Bank or Asian Development Bank for this purpose.
The amount for the proposed wall, she said, was in addition to the Rs 4,800-crore financial assistance sought by the state government to cope with the massive damage caused the December 26 tsunami.
