They broke the barricading and jumped into the D-area, earmarked for media and security. Meanwhile, cops remained mute spectators to the unruly behaviour of the workers.

AMID A riot of colourful flags of nearly half-a-dozen political parties, chaos reigned supreme at Jan Morcha’s ‘mukti sangram’ rally, here on Tuesday.

While the turnout of the unexpected crowd flummoxed the Jan Morcha leaders, workers of various constituents of the Morcha, threw discipline in the dustbin to come closer to their leaders. They broke the barricading and jumped into the D-area, earmarked for media and security. Meanwhile, cops remained mute spectators to the unruly behaviour of the workers.

They also refused to listen to the plea of Morcha chief Raj Babbar, who rushed to the crowd with folded hands to ask them to have patience. Even though CPI general secretary AB Bardhan mildly reprimanded the placard and flag-carrying workers to behave, Babbar said, “This is the language the Samajwadi Party understands”. For Babbar it was not indiscipline but their enthusiasm.

Almost all leaders of smaller parties, which have joined the Morcha made hectic attempts to control their workers, but no one was ready to listen. Although various UP-based parties have come on to the Morcha platform, they have a long way to go to work in unison, a fact demonstrated by the fact that each leader was cheered by his partymen. Bardhan pointing out this glaring disharmony said that it would lead nowhere. Bardhan also flayed Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for cancellation of rooms allotted in his name in VVIP guest house here on Tuesday.
