The city traffic police will move court against the Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL) after the toll operator failed to install five extra tax windows at the toll plaza.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 5 directed the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway concessionaire to add more tax collection counters on five cash lanes on either side of the link road. The DGSCL had been given a week's time to do the needful.
The order came as part of efforts to speed up procedure of toll collection and avoid long jams.
"The five additional windows would allow six vehicles to pay toll and cross the plaza at one go. The DGSCL had one week to implement the order but it defaulted. After waiting for them to act till Wednesday, we have decided to move court," said Bharti Arora, DCP (traffic), Gurgaon.
A DGSCL spokesperson, however, said that that the company is discussing the matter with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and it will be sorted soon.
"The modalities of increasing the number of windows at the toll plaza were discussed in a meeting. On an experimental basis, we would add portable terminals in some lanes from Thursday evening and assess the impact," said the firm’s spokesperson.
Earlier, the counsel appearing for Gurgaon police had submitted before the HC that it is the concessionaires that are responsible for the chaos at expressway because they do not have requisite staff to deal with the traffic, which results into traffic snarls.
