Congress MLAs K Jana Reddy and R Damodar Reddy left for Delhi on Wednesday to appeal to the party high command to make a positive statement over the formation of a separate Telangana state.
"We will meet all available top leaders. We are seeking a favourable statement on Telangana, because everybody expected that a statement would come as a follow up to the January five all-party meeting held by the Centre," Damodar Reddy told reporters here.
Congress MLAs, MLCs and even ministers from Telangana, who planned to visit Delhi to lobby with the high command, cancelled their planned trip yesterday following a directive from Union Minister Veerappa Moily, in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh.
Jana Reddy and Damodar Reddy, who are leading the Congress MLAs and MLCs in the struggle for Telangana, went to Delhi on Monday last but returned yesterday as per the high command's directive. The two leaders told their colleagues upon their return yesterday that the Centre would soon announce a "sweet news" on the statehood issue.
The Congress legislators are under pressure as the all-party Joint Action Committee (JAC) had set a deadline for the Centre to make a categorical statement for the formation of Telangana by January 28 failing which all public representatives would submit their resignations.
