The Udyog Vihar area, where around 400 small and medium industries, a Maruti plant and two five-star hotels are situated, has been managing without power for five hours in the evening for the past few years, thanks to apathy of HSIIDC officials.
The main roads of the area remain in the dark from 5pm to 10pm daily, posing security threats to the people working there.
Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), which set up the industrial township and generate maintenance charges to the tunes of crores of rupees, doesn’t seem to have much interested in solving the problem.
Hamvir Singh, HSIIDC deputy general manager, Gurgaon, said, “We have asked our electrical division to prepare an estimate. We will float a tender soon after that.” The power distribution company Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has held HSIIDC responsible for the crisis.
According to DHBVN superintending engineer Subhash Deswal, HSIIDC hasn’t shown seriousness yet.
“We can run a dedicated electrical phase for street lighting in Udyog Vihar. But we did not get any response from HSIIDC on depositing the estimate cost of the proposal,” he said.
In a reply to an RTI application recently, HSIIDC said R6 lakh had been spent on street lighting.
