Seeking to allay apprehensions over the proposed uniform education system for a 'common syllabus,' in the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karuanidhi on Wednesday said it aimed at delivering "quality education to all children without any discrimination".
"The state government has taken a policy decision to integrate the four Boards-- State, Matriculation, Anglo-Indian and Oriental-- to utilise their salient features to devise a common syllabus and implement it from the next academic year (2010-2011)," he said.
The system will be implemented from Classes one to six next year and expanded to others in successive years.
In an official press release here, Karunanidhi said those opposing the system are doing so without having knowledge about the new syllabus. "It is not proper to express such apprehensions," he said.
There was not much difference in the content of all these Boards, he said, adding that the proposed system would not mean "forcing" the syllabus of one Board on schools following others.
"The opinions of stakeholders from all Boards on the new syllabus will be taken up before finalising it. Only experienced teachers will be employed in writing textbooks for the new system and there would be a Transparent Method by way of public discussion before implementing it," he said.

"Uniform education system is aimed at delivering quality education to all children in the state without any discrimination," he added.
