13-year-old Sonu, who hails from Sitamarhi district in Bihar, was working for one Sheelu Singh Chandel who sells ‘chole-bhature’ in Barra-6 area in Kanpur city.

The brutality came to light after boy's family arrived in Kanpur on Friday morning after being informed by some locals about the incident and approached the Barra Police.

Sonu’s brother Chotu said he was being treated at a local clinic for the past two days. “His employer didn’t even care to arrange proper medical care for him. The police registered my complaint,” he said.

Sonu, the police said, had asked Sheelu to pay his monthly salary and allow him to go to Sitamarhi on Rakshabandhan for one week. On Wednesday he repeated his request, which irritated Sheelu and he allegedly threw boiling water in a cauldron on him. Sonu suffered severe burn injuries on his back and some other parts of his body.
