In his letter to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, the RLD chief has pointed out anomalies in the payment of incentives to the farmers by the cooperative and sugar corporation mills. Singh said these mills had so far not made payments, which was a grave injustice with the farmers. The State Government, on the other, has been repeatedly claiming that adequate payments had been made to them.

Singh said that during his meetings with the chief minister he had discussed the issue but no action had been taken. He said resentment was brewing among farmers as they had been incurring huge losses.

The RLD leader said if the incentive payment was not made in time these mills would not be able to get sugarcane during the next crushing season. Asking the chief minister to order for the payment without any further delay, Singh said the government order (GO) in this connection was issued on March 3, 2006. He said the private mills had already paid the incentive amount. At a time when the State Government has gone overboard in taking credit for payments to sugarcane farmers, Ajit Singh’s missive to the chief minister has given a fresh turn to the issue.

The RLD chief has also expressed concern over the fast deteriorating law and order situation in the State.
