Uttar Pradesh MLA Tahir Hussain Siddhiqui was on Tuesday arrested for possessing cartridges while boarding a Mumbai-bound flight at Goa international airport.
"Vasco police have booked and arrested the legislator under the Arms Act. The airlines, on Tuesday morning, complained to the local police that ten cartridges of 0.32 bore were found in the baggage of the legislator who was about to board Deccan Airlines flight for Mumbai," Superintendent of Police Shekhar Prabhudesai told PTI.
He said the MLA representing Kamlagang constituency was carrying the cartridges without any valid licence or documents adding the airlines' security officer has lodged a complaint with the police.
However, the MLA told the police that he was having a valid licence which is with his wife back home, police sources said.
Police have registered an offence under the Arms Act against Siddhiqui who was kept at the Vasco police station.
