The US-led forces waging war in Iraq now control 600 oil wells in the south of the country, Pentagon spokeswoman Victoria Clarke said on Saturday.
The US-led forces have pushed 320 kilometres (200 miles) into Iraqi territory and were near Baghdad, she told a press conference.
