After the recent discloser by chief minister Vijay Bahuguna about 37 incursion attempts by Chinese forces inside Barahoti in Chamoli district has shifted attention of government machinery. Officials are following up with border road organistaion (BRO) to construct roads alongside border areas at the earliest.
Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts share around 350 kilometers long international border with China. In a meeting held with BRO officials, chief secretary Subhash Kumar informed that government was expediting 28 cases of road construction in twin districts that were awaiting forest or other department’s clearance.
Officials disclosed that 28 kms long road has been constructed alongside border area in Pithoragarh while work was under progress for construction of another 91 kms road in Chamoli district.
State officials say that the pending and under construction road projects will be completed in next four years. Interestingly China is understood to have improved road connectivity on its side of border while the India side still lacks better connectivity.
Meanwhile to discuss ‘various issues’ with the union government, chief secretary will be meeting union home secretary this Monday at national capital. As per sources both the officials are likely to hold talks on the infrastructure and intelligence strengthening alongside border areas besides other subjects.

“These (intrusion) reports are based on intelligence inputs, there is no such exaggeration” told DK Kotia, secretary (home) to Hindustan Times.
Home secretary informed that state government was making efforts to improve road connectivity and therefore BRO has been approached to take up and expedite road projects.
