At the start of the new academic session at DU, many were caught off-guard, when the university’s vice-chancellor (V-C) Dinesh Singh embarked on a surprise visit to some off-campus colleges.
The V-C’s agenda, which encompassed Swami Shraddhanand College, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Rajdhani College, Shivaji College and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, focused primarily on gauging the infrastructure in each college along with the facilities that students were provided and their level of satisfaction.
“I am here to befriend you. If there is anything that you would like to say to me or there any grievance you want to pass on to me, you are most welcome to do so by sending me an email or joining the DU Facebook page,” said Singh in Swami Shraddhanand College.
The V-C left no stone unturned in reaching out to the students, promising them several opportunities to showcase their talent on public platforms in future. “A few students from each college will join me for lunch in October. I will also organise a creative writing competition and there will be Western and Indian Classical music competitions,” said Singh.
Singh also disclosed several new plans on the anvil for teachers and students, alike. “We will develop a social development project in which we will invest R15 lakh. There will also be a provision for teachers to travel abroad once in three years for any conference which will be funded by DU,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}The V-C also unveiled plans of starting a new girls’ hostel in North Campus, which will accommodate 1,500 students. “There will also be a bus service from the Metro stations. Also, cases of students from economically weaker sections will be given due consideration for fee waiver,” he added.
