"Based on evidence, a team of Auraiya police recovered the car with Delhi registration number parked outside the house of one Govind Tiwari in Abdulpur village," Senior Superintendent of Police Hariram Sharma told PTI.

Police is also quizzing Govind Tiwari, who is a distant relative of BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari arrested last week for allegedly murdering the engineer, sources said.

Sharma said the team has left for Auriaya with the recovered car.

Gupta was killed on December 24 allegedly by the BSP MLA and his supporters after he refused to pay a "huge sum" for the birthday celebrations of Mayawati, a charge denied by the state government.

Autopsy revealed that he was subjected to electric shocks and brutally beaten up before dying of brain haemorrhage.

Later, Tiwari and four of his accomplices were arrested. The police, which yesterday claimed that it had enough evidence against the MLA, has also launched a hunt for for another BSP leader and district president Yogendra Dohre.
