It was the first time Venus had reached a grand slam quarter-final since Wimbledon last year when she was beaten in the final by sister Serena.

The fourth-seeded American, who missed the U.S. Open through injury and lost in the Australian Open third round, looked back in convincing form in the 81 minutes of the fourth-round match.

Venus, who also lost the 2002 French Open final to Serena, has not dropped a set so far this tournament.

She came close against Zuluaga, who forced her into a second set tiebreak, which the American easily won 7-3 on her second match point.
