The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Rajasthan on Saturday said it would not allow the construction of the Haj House near Jaipur, the foundation for which was laid by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje amid violent protests by the Sangh Parivar on Wednesday.

VHP organisational secretary Jugal Kishore told reporters that they would continue to support the protests by local residents against the proposal and would not let the BJP-led government build the Haj House in the area.

He slammed Raje for laying the foundation for the project despite violent protests in which several people and police were "unnecessarily" injured.

Kishore insisted that the VHP was not against the construction of a Haj House, but only opposed building it in Sanganer. "We are not against the Haj House promised by the state government. The state government can make (it) in the land specified in Karbala (in the walled city of Jaipur) where land has already been allotted for the Haj House."

The allotted plot in Sanganer is a pastureland and had been earlier used for cremations by Hindus, he claimed.
