Renovating their house was not even on the minds of the gangrape victim's family, but they did not even get to take a call on that. An over-eager administration did that for them, as chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is likely to meet the family on Friday.
Workers felled bamboo trees so that VIPs did not feel claustrophobic, levelled the front yard and dismantled a drain. They wanted to create a platform of bricks and pitch a tent for the CM and his men.
Top government officials surveyed the house of the victim and noticed its lack of adequate space. They decided the address to the media would take place at a school ground where a helipad has been created. Security officials told the father to make sure there wasn't much crowd when the CM came to meet the family.
"Where were they till now? When someone fell ill, he walked for 15km and yet didn't get treatment," said a villager.
Janardan Sahi, district panchayat officer, admitted, "This is the region's most backward area. We have brought the village under Dr Lohia Samagra Gramin Yojna for housing and sanitation." The village has become a garrison due to the presence of hundreds of policemen and scores of government vehicles.
