Village tense after cow slaughter

TENSION PREVAILED in Lediari village, under Khiri police station, on Monday following arson and cow slaughter by some villagers on Sunday night.

The SP Trans Yamuna visited the village and reviewed the situation.

Some persons allegedly attacked Dalit villagers with sharp-edged weapons. They also axed a cow to death on the spot and fatally injured several others, besides setting two houses on fire on Sunday night.

Villagers led by Goraksha State president Lal Mani Tiwari gheraoed the Khiri police station and demanded arrest of the culprits. The villagers lifted the gherao after arrest of two persons and assurance by the police officers that the remaining would be arrested. Heavy police force has been deployed in the village.

According to the police, the situation was under control and Bhola and Sanjay Kol were arrested so far. Police were investigating the case and measures were taken to avert further trouble in the village.

Road mishaps: Three persons sustained serious injuries in different road accidents here during past 24 hours.

Urmila claimed that somebody took away his belongings including cash and a wrist watch while he was lying unconscious. His condition was stated to be stable.

In another incident Shanti (60), a resident of Cantt area and Abhishek son of Dharamraj, a resident of Rasoolabad under Shivkuti police station, were admitted to Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital on Sunday night. They sustained injuries when a speeding motorbike hit Shanti near Muirabad Crossing.
