Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy is beyond time and spaceThis refers to Gopalkrishna Gandhi's article Frame the future now (Inciden-tally, August 11). It is appalling that the writer faced this question - 'Must you bring Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi into everything you write?' At a time when our country is plagued with corruption, violence and terrorism, Mahatma Gandhi has become more relevant than ever before. Moreover, Gandhian philosophy cannot be reduc-ed to formulas and thus more and more people should read about him. This makes it all the more important for people like Gopalkrishna Gandhi to write about the man who fired the imagination of the country and the world.Aparajita Kotlia, Dehradun
II'The world will live in peace only when the individuals composing it make up their minds to do so.' These words of Mahatma Gandhi clearly show that an individual can contribute a lot to world peace. Let's us not divide his teachings into watertight compartments (whether social or political) and study him at a micro level so that we can adapt his philosophy in our lives. Vinod Tyagi, Delhi
It was the same old, same oldThis refers to the report Treat slow growth rate as national security issue (August 16). Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's ninth Independence Day speech made for lacklustre listening with oft-repeated promises and uninspiring comments. Unfortunately, he did not address crucial problems facing the country like widespread dissatisfaction with politicians, ethnic and communal violence, the sagging economy, unemployment, etc. Karan Thakur, New Delhi
