It’s undeniable that Modi is the BJP’s best bet in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and Advani should have realised this fact and accepted it. If he thought problems are beyond resolution, he should have at least resigned gracefully rather than letting down a party he helped build.

By not resigning gracefully, Advani has let down the party he built
With reference to the report Advani retires hurt (June 11), an aggrieved LK Advani’s resignation from all posts (parliamentary board, election committee and national executive) in the BJP is worrying but still it is in the interest of the party.

His unfulfilled ambitions of becoming prime minister seem to be the reason behind his decision because there’s little that can explain his opposition to Narendra Modi’s elevation as election campaign committee chief.

It’s undeniable that Modi is the BJP’s best bet in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and Advani should have realised this fact and accepted it. If he thought problems are beyond resolution, he should have at least resigned gracefully rather than letting down a party he helped build.

Advani’s resignation from all party posts is unreasonable. In his resignation letter he has expressed that leaders are more concerned with their personal agendas. But, ironically, with his resignation Advani seems to have placed his personal interests over those of his party. The octogenarian should rethink on his decision and strive towards steering his party in the right direction.
