Twitter on Thursday hailed a Kolkata court’s verdict which held three of the five men guilty of gang raping a 37-year-old mother of two inside a moving car in the posh Park Street area more than three years ago.
The woman was raped by five men on the night of February 6, 2012, after they befriended her at a night club on Park Street. A police team led by former joint commissioner of police (crime) Damayanti Sen investigated the case and apprehended three of the accused. Two others, including prime accused Kader Khan, are yet to be arrested.
As news of her rapists’ conviction came in, many on Twitter remembered the woman’s courage and consistency in pursuing justice who knew her and some who got to know her because of the uphill battle she fought.
Many expressed their joy and wished the brave woman, who spoke up and refused to be turned into a nameless victim died last year, were alive to witness the win she fought so relentlessly for. She died earlier in March this year.
