With Agni 5, India’s well prepared to take on its enemies if need be
With reference to the report India’s high five moment (April 20), the successful launch of the Agni 5 should be a matter of pride for every Indian. The nation congratulates the team of scientists at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which has worked hard to make India a part of the elite club of nations that possess Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). The inclusion of the Agni 5 into our defence system has sent out a clear message to the world that though India follows a ‘no first strike’ policy on using nuclear weapons, it is well prepared to take on its enemies if the need arises.

Alert Islamabad first, Mr Malik
This refers to the editorial The news we can use (The Pundit, April 19). Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik knows that extremists from Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Area province are planning to cross over to India. So rather than asking India to be on guard, he should ask his colleagues in the government to prevent such an attack.

Peace process is a two-way street
This refers to the editorial A thaw may be in the offing (Our Take, April 20). Despite India’s repeated reminders, Pakistan hasn’t taken action against the terrorist camps on its soil, brought terrorists like Hafiz Saeed to justice or asked Chinese troops to move out of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. So why should India take General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani’s suggestion of speeding up the Indo-Pak peace process seriously? As the editorial rightly states, it seems Gen Kayani has finally realised that India may be part of the solution to what ails Pakistan.
