Woman arrested on drug peddling charge

An Indian woman has been arrested by the Air Intelligence officials of the Mumbai Customs for allegedly trying to smuggle banned drug, Ketamine Hydrochloride, worth Rs 24-lakh to Kuala Lampur.

An Indian woman has been arrested by the Air Intelligence officials of the Mumbai Customs for allegedly trying to smuggle banned drug, Ketamine Hydrochloride, worth Rs 24-lakh to Kuala Lampur. The alleged peddler, Reena Cheruvathoor Antony, was arrested on January 10 when Customs officials recovered the banned substance from one of her checked-in-baggage, a Mumbai Customs release said in Mumbai on Monday.

"Officers of the Air intelligence intercepted one passenger, Reena Cheruvathoor Antony, who was to depart to Kuala Lampur by Singapore Airlines flight SQ-421," it said. "Examination of one of her checked-in baggage resulted in the recovery of 24-kg Ketamine Hydrochloride valued at Rs 24-lakh in the international market," the release said. The officials also seized Rs 16,000 from her possession during personal search, the release said, adding that, "the passenger has been arrested and further investigations into the case are in progress."
