MP: 2 months after taking up probe, CBI yet to take over all Vyapam cases

Two months after the Central Bureau of Investigation took up investigation into the Vyapam scam in MP, the federal investigating agency is yet to take over all the cases related to the multi-layered scam.

Two months after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took up investigation into the Vyapam scam in MP, the federal investigating agency is yet to take over all the cases related to the multi-layered scam.

The fact came to light during the hearing of a bail application at the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh high court on Monday.

CBI superintendent of police, Nishit Mishra, told the court that the CBI is still in the process of taking over investigation into all the charge-sheets filed in Vyapam scam at different courts of Madhya Pradesh.

The court was hearing the bail application of one Brajesh Kumar, who was booked by the Special Task Force, before the investigation was transferred to the CBI.

The petitioner’s counsel advocate Himanshu Thakur pleaded before the court that Kumar was in judicial custody for more than six months. “Since charge sheets in the matter have already been filed, it is his right to be granted bail,” he said.

Filing a reply to the court’s order, the CBI said it has not received the case of Brajesh Kumar and requested the court to seek reply from the investigating officer of Sanyogita Ganj Police station.

The division bench, comprising justices PK Jaiswal and JK Jain, took a strict stance over the arguments and observed that due to lack of coordination among the investigating agencies, many applications are pending before court and directed the investigating officer to produce documents on September 30.
