A woman from Bharatpur beat up a Class 12 student with a stick for stalking her during her morning running sessions. Some passers-by shot the incident on mobile phones and the video is now circulating on social media.
The woman in the video has been identified as Vani Sharma, 19, who is preparing for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam after graduating from Rameshwari Devi Girls’ College in Bharatpur. Sharma said she runs 15 km every morning to prepare for the gruelling physical examination for recruitment into the Indian Army.
She said a Class 12 student, Hitul Saini, was stalking her for many days during her running sessions. “On July 11, he proposed love to me and told his friends that I was his girlfriend. I took the stick from a morning walker and beat him up to teach him a lesson,” said Sharma.
“Girls are not weak – they can handle such stalkers. Men dare to harass girls and women because we don’t teach them lessons,” said the woman who lives with her maternal grandparents in Bharatpur after her father’s death in 2003.
Her father Pradeep Sharma was a bank officer. Her mother Parul Sharma is a grade 1 government teacher at Bhiwadi in Alwar district. Her brother Abhimanu Sharma passed Bachelor of Science (BSc) final year from Maharani Shri Jaya College this year.

{{/usCountry}}Vani Sharma said she didn’t report the harassment to police because she didn’t want to spoil the career of a Class 12 student by registering a criminal case against him. “I am capable to handle such ruffians. Women need to learn to handle such miscreants,” she added.
Suraj Prakash Kaushik, her maternal grandfather, said she shared the incident with them on July 11. “She is a brave girl and wants to be an army officer to fulfil her father’s dream,” he said.
