The growing base of global terror outfit Islamic State (IS) and its influence on youth, including those from India, will form the centre of discussions at the two-day Counter Terrorism Conference beginning from Tuesday in Jaipur.
The conference, based on the theme ‘Tackling Global Terror Outfits’, will provide a platform for discussions on the Caliphate, al Qaeda, religious and theological underpinning of global terror, the use of technology and social media in terror, and the response of various anti-terror agencies, a representative of the organising committee said.
The Centre for Security and Strategy (CSS), India Foundation is organising the conference in collaboration with the Rajasthan government. A similar conference was held in March last year in Jaipur.
President Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the inaugural address on Tuesday, while Afghan chief executive officer and head of the council of ministers Dr Abdullah Abdullah will present the keynote address at the conference.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh, defence minister Manohar Parrikar, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ibrahim Rahimpour, Malaysia’s deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi and Bangladesh state minister for foreign affairs Mohammad Shahriar Alam are scheduled to address the high-profile conference.

In December, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrested Mohammed Sirajuddin, a marketing manager with a state-owned oil company, on the charge of establishing links with IS.

A youth from Tonk was among the 14 held by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its country-wide crackdown on suspected IS sympathisers.
