By the time police arrived, the body parts were scattered all over the road, in what has been described as one of the most shocking cases of public apathy.

The incident rekindled memories of a similar incident when a man bled to death on a Delhi road after being hit by a vehicle as people continued to pass by.

“We had received information from the control room about the body of a man lying on the road near the Polo Victory cinema hall. When the police reached the spot they found that the body was mutilated because it was hit by one or two other vehicles,” said Rajendra Singh, SHO, accident police station (west).

Officials say that the man was lying there for a long time, before someone decided to inform the control room.

Efforts were on to identify the deceased.

Sources say that there are few street lights near the site of the accident and the CCTV cameras nearby don’t have night vision facility installed in them.
