None can be as brave as those who defeat death. Defeating death may sound impossible but the stories of the victory by many on the Cancer Survivors’ Day make one believe nothing is impossible in the world.
The day was celebrated at Bhagwan Mahavir Cancer Hospital and Research Centre ( BMCHRC ) in Jaipur on Wednesday. It was a special occasion as a group of 30 schoolchildren in Belgium had raised funds and donated Rs. 3.50 lakh to the hospital. Over 600 cancer survivors witnessed the grand celebration of their very own success.
Atma Kumari, 8, resident of Renwal in Jaipur district, used to have stomachache and high fever. Despite having received treatment at various hospitals, she did not get any relief and her father brought her to Bhagwan Mahavir Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (BMCHRC) in Jaipur.
The tests proved that she was detected with acute lymphocytic leukemia at the age of six. Her treatment began in 2009 and ended in 2011. Now she is fine, said her father Moolchand.
Similarly, Ashok Sain,50, was detected with neck cancer in 2000 and he took chemotherapy for six months. “I am fit and fine for the last 14 years,” he told the gathering. His son Lucky suffered a fracture in his hand when he was eight. The bone did not heal and further investigations revealed cancer. Lucky was referred to the Tata Memorial Hospital for surgery and after that chemotherapy sessions were given at BMCHRC. “Now my son is 20, has completed his graduation and is preparing for further exams,” Sain said.

Justice Manish Bhandari Rajasthan, BMCHRC chairman Navratan Kothari, managing trustee Vimal Chand Surana, chairperson cancer care and vice chairman BMCHRC Anila Kothari were present on the occasion.
