There seems to be no end to BJP’s troubles in Rajasthan. Apart from the Opposition, the saffron party’s own MLAs continue to attack and criticise it.
BJP Ramgarh (Alwar) MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja cornered the government over the law and order situation and demanded an inquiry against the superintendent of police (SP), Alwar.
Newly elected MLA from Mandalgarh Vivek Dhakad also took oath in the state assembly on Wednesday.
In a supplement question, during question hour, Ahuja demanded an inquiry against the SP to probe his alleged corrupt practices, misconduct and dictatorial working. “Ask any MLA from Alwar or the minister in charge about the SP’s misconduct. I had apprised DGP, inspector general of police but no action has been taken,” he said addressing the house on Wednesday.
However, appreciating the SP, home minister Gulab Chand Kataria said that the law and order situation has improved in Alwar. “Action against the official would be taken, if the legislator provides factual information and the officer is found guilty after a probe. But the SP will not be cornered on an allegation. The way the SP has handled law and order in Alwar is historic,” he said.
Replying to Ahuja’s question on the number of policemen caught for accepting bribes, Kataria informed the House that 200 police personnel had been arrested in cases of graft in the last four years, from 2014 to 2017. “Rajasthan is the first state and leading in the country where action has been taken against three IPS officers. As many as 275 cases of graft were registered against policemen. Of them, 200 policemen were arrested in 171 cases. Chargesheets were submitted in courts in 155 cases, the final report in six cases presented in court and 114 cases are under investigation,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}However, countering the minister’s claim, Ahuja said that most of those arrested were low-ranking policemen like constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspector and sub-inspectors. He asked why senior officers like deputy SP or SP were not caught.
In reply, Kataria said that action has been taken against IPS and RPS, and three IPS officers were jailed in the cases of corruption.
