CPI(M) leader stabbed to death near Kannur
Left alleges RSS hand behind attack; retaliatory attack injures one RSS worker.

A local CPI(M) leader was stabbed to death in New Mahe near the trouble-prone Kannur on Monday night. Police said Babu Kannipoil, a former councillor and branch secretary, was attacked by a group of assailants near his house.
He suffered serious stab wounds and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. TheCPI(M) alleged that RSS workers were behind the attack. Later, an RSS worker was injured in a retaliatory attack.
In Kannur, notorious for Left-saffron clashes, more than 200 workers belonging to both camps have been killed in recurring political violence in the last three decades.
