Thushar Vellappally, NDA candidate against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad, granted bail in cheque bounce case

Thushar Vellappally, who was sent to the Ajman Central Jail, was arrested on Tuesday evening after an undated cheque of 10 million dirham (approximately ₹19 crore) given by him 10 years ago was dishonoured.

A court in the UAE on Thursday granted bail to Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) president Thushar Vellappally who was arrested two days ago in connection with a cheque-bouncing case.

Vellappally was the NDA candidate against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Kerala’s Wayanad constituency during the Lok Sabah election held early this year.

He was released after NRI businessmen MA Yousef Ali helped him depositing the bail money. Later, his impounded passport was also released.

Earlier, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to external affairs minister S Jaishankar seeking his intervention in the case.

After his arrest, Vellappally was sent to Ajman Central Jail on Tuesday. The case relates to an undated cheque of 10 million dirham (approximately ₹19 crore) given by his father 10 years ago was dishonoured.
