A 17-year-old girl jumped to her death from the fourth tower of South City, the tallest residential building in the city, on Monday evening.
According to the police, Rusha Majumdar, an autistic child jumped from the 20th floor of building around 6:15 pm when her mother was busy talking over phone. With this incident, altogether six persons committed suicide by jumping off the South City, which is fast becoming a suicide spot.
“From the primary investigation it seems that it’s a case of suicide. The family members didn’t notice when she jumped off the balcony. The body has been sent for post-mortem, after which the scene will be clear,” said Debashis Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of Jadavpur police station.
Family sources said that the girl had autism since birth and had become hyperactive lately. The deceased used to live with her mother and two sisters at South City. Father Shankar Mukherjee works in the merchant navy and keeps touring the country.

Again on October 9, a 55-year-old share-market broker jumped from the 30th floor of tower two, leaving a suicide note on the staircases. In his note he mentioned his inability to pay his huge debt as the reason for such a choice.

The residents of South City had earlier expressed their dissatisfaction over the security of the residential complex. However, with occurrence of Monday’s incident, its evident that the residents’ request to the South City authorities to tighten security went in vain.
