The Brunch round-up: The week and how it made us feel
All grown upSo, Sid and Kiara are having a baby. That’s cute and all, but you know what that means? The OG Students – Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra – are all grown up and are now parents. SOTY came out in 2012, and gave us hope that we could have a Bollywood-style college romance. We’re adults now and still waiting for it to happen. #NotCool- Grabbing popcornVerity’s promo clips look delicious. Anne Hathaway is Verity (the author who hires a young writer to complete her bestselling series). Josh Hartnett is the conflicted husband, Jeremy. It’s the pairing we didn’t know we needed. Colleen Hoover’s previous adap, It Ends With Us, had so many missteps! Hope all goes well for this one.
- Bringing out the glitterIt’s not just for nail art and makeup. TikTok girlies just showed us that it can wean out married men from the dating pool. Women going out have been shimmering up, knowing that glitter falls on everything and refuses to budge. No man wants evidence that he’s cheated, so they just avoid sparkled-up women. Shine on, we say!
- Playing it smoothFans, men and women, showed up to Pitbull’s London concert with the best homage, ever: Aviator sunglasses, tux and a bald cap! Pates reflected the light as Mr Worldwide performed. London is warm at the moment. We hope everyone got home and shampooed.
- RSVPing NoA new app, Timeleft, believes that what we’re missing in life is interaction with total strangers. For a fee, their algo pairs you with five dinner companions. Why does this sound sus, like the plot to a new Knives Out movie? We have enough strangers in our DMs. Hard pass. We’d rather binge The White Lotus. Alone.
- Seeing India anew2000s kids, unite! A Shin-chan movie is coming. Note the try-hard title: Crayon Shin-chan The Movie: Super Magnificent! Scorching Kasukabe Dancers. And the plot: The gang travels to Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur, eats chapatis and joins a dance battle. Alas, Matsuzaga Ma’am isn’t in the movie. We’d have loved to see her in a sari.
- Naming no namesCanadian cafes are renaming Americanos to Canadianos to troll Donald Trump. It’s funny. But it doesn’t really hit. What’s next? Chicago deep dish being called Calgary deep dish? American chopsuey going as Canadian chopsuey? US-Style mayo being called Mayonaise Québécois? Is that the Canadian Dream?
- Staying on the groundAn American startup recently did their first test-drive (test-flight?) of a flying car. Ten years ago, we’d have been excited. Now, we’re looking at all the plane crashes on the news and thinking... we’ve seen this movie before. The world has enough problems. Maybe fix them first, including flight safety?
