I have always believed that hair fall needs to be looked at from more than one angle. And dandruff has often been one of those annoying problems that make the scalp feel itchy, flaky and uncomfortable, while also making my hair look less healthy, along with, of course, the hard water in the city. I particularly noticed hair fall worsening for my husband also. So, when I received a PR package from Man Matters Anti-Dandruff kit, including an anti-dandruff shampoo, hair gummies (which he did not have) and their advanced hair serum, I and my husband decided to review it.

Honestly, the claim ‘for men’ did not actually bother me much, and I too tried the shampoo and serum on my frizzy hair. But since it's curated for men, I asked my husband to use it and roll out a more honest review. And here's what he liked and what he felt were the downsides of the shampoo and the advanced hair serum.

He used the kit consistently for over a month, and I paid attention to how his scalp and hair looked and felt during the process. Here’s my honest first-hand review of his experience.

What made him try it?

For my husband, the biggest attraction was that the shampoo was designed around his main concern that he was already dealing with: dandruff! Instead of using separate products for his scalp and hair, he liked the idea of having a routine that addressed both.

He also wanted something that could fit easily into his daily routine. He isn’t someone who enjoys spending 20 minutes applying multiple hair products (as he portrays himself as too busy for grooming), so a straightforward kit was definitely more appealing.

So, he applied the advanced hair serum twice a day, in the morning post-shower and at night and then rinsed his hair and scalp the next morning.

His experience with the shampoo and serum

What he liked

Lightweight consistency and fragrance

The first thing he noticed after using the shampoo was its lightweight consistency and fragrance. The shampoo has a very mild fragrance which isn't overpowering, but your hair would smell nice all day long. He has a fairly dry scalp, which is the main reason for his growing dandruff issue. The shampoo gave his scalp a fresh, clean feeling without making his hair feel excessively dry. The hair serum is very lightweight and did not make the hair look oily. It did not add that shine to his hair, but it is enough to keep his hair looking manageable and not dry.

Lesser flakes

Within the first couple of weeks, he noticed that the visible flakes seemed less obvious. His scalp also looked cleaner, and he complained less about itching. That was probably the most noticeable benefit for him because dandruff and itching had been one of his main concerns.

Reduced hair fall

Another dramatic experience was a reduction in hair fall, which is also caused by dandruff. As the dandruff reduced, there was a sudden drop in hair fall as well. We didn't see an overnight transformation, and I wouldn't expect one from any hair-care kit. However, with regular use, he felt that there was less hair coming out during washing and combing. His hair also looked slightly healthier and more manageable.

Convenient to use

Another positive was convenience. Having products that could be incorporated into one routine made it easier for him to stay consistent. And, in my experience, consistency is often more important than having a shelf full of products that you rarely use.

Pricing

Another plus point of the shampoo and serum is their affordability. The cost of a 200 ml bottle of this anti-dandruff shampoo is 449, and the 30 ml serum would cost 799, which is a pretty affordable range.

Brand Confidence

We focus on products from brands with a proven reputation and long-standing market trust.

What could have been better?

Speedy results

The biggest area for improvement, in his opinion, is the speed of results. If you're expecting dramatic dandruff reduction within the first few uses, you may find the experience underwhelming. Dandruff can have several causes, so a topical hair-care routine cannot necessarily address every reason behind it. Moreover, speedy results totally depend on one's personal choices and d lifestyle habits like health, hair care, and usage.

More guidance

I also think the shampoo and serum could offer more guidance around different types of dandruff. Dandruff can also be caused by genetics, nutritional deficiencies, stress or hormonal changes, and so clearer guidance on when the kit may or may not be suitable would make the experience better.

Not very beneficial for frizzy hair

This is where my expertise comes into the picture. As I mentioned above, I too tried the Man Matters Anti Dandruff shampoo, but clearly, this is NOT for me. I have frizzy and wavy hair that becomes overly dry after shampooing, and this shampoo by Man Matters could not address this issue. Though my hair and scalp looked cleaner, I was expecting some shine and softness, which was missing.

Final verdict

After watching my husband use the Man Matters Anti Dandruff shampoo and advanced serum, I'd say it is a convenient option for someone whose main concerns are dandruff, scalp discomfort and itching. The biggest difference we noticed was a cleaner, calmer scalp with fewer visible flakes. The hair-fall improvement was more gradual and modest.

If your dandruff is persistent, excessive or sudden, it is worth finding out what is causing it instead of simply adding more hair-care products to your routine. Moreover, as dandruff and hair fall may have more causes, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist before trying anything new on your scalp and hair.

Would my husband continue using it? Yes, particularly because it was easy to fit into his routine and his dandruff seemed more manageable.
