Exit polls predict big win for Cong-DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu

Elections were held for 38 of Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats (Vellore poll was countermanded) on April 18. The bypolls to 22 crucial assembly segments were held on on May 19 with the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress-DMK alliance is set to trump the AIADMK-BJP combine in the state of Tamil Nadu, said a majority of exit polls on Sunday.

The News 24-Todays Chanakya predicted that the DMK-Congress may win 31, while the AIADMK-BJP may win only 6. The News18 India-IPSOS poll says the DMK-Congress may win 22-24 seats, whereas the AIADMK-BJP alliance may win between 14 to 16 seats.

The Aaj Tak-Axis My India poll gives 34-38 seats to DMK-Congress alliance, while it gave the BJP-AIADMK combine 0-4 seats

The Republic-Jan Ki Baat exit polls said the DMK-Congress will win between 15 and 29 seats and the AIADMK-BJP combine will get 9 to 13 seats.

According to the NewsX-NETA exit polls, the DMK-Congress alliance will win 20 seats, while the AIADMK-BJP will win nine seats and nine seats will be won by others.

 

Exit polls often get it wrong and the actual results will only be known on Thursday, May 23rd when votes are counted.

In 2014, the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK swept the Lok Sabha elections with 37 seats and 44.3 per cent vote share, BJP got one and the PMK 1.

 

The 2019 parliamentary polls is the first election being fought in state without regional stalwarts DMK’s Karunanidhi and AIADMK’S Jayalalithaa.

Tamil Nadu sends the fourth highest number of representatives to the Lok Sabha, 39, after Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.

The ruling AIADMK contested the elections in alliance with the BJP, PMK and DMDK. The BJP contested five of these seats, and the AIADMK 25.

The DMK and Congress also sealed the seat-sharing deal in Tamil Nadu for the Lok Sabha election. The DMK contested 20 out of Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats leaveing the rest for its allies, including the Congress.
