The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Monday released constituency-specific manifestos for East Delhi and Chandni Chowk. Besides focussing on health and education, better law and order, safety of women and decongestion of the areas are some of the key issues listed in these area-specific manifestos.
While releasing the manifesto, AAP’s East Delhi candidate, Atishi, said, “One of the major concerns in the constituency across classes is that of women safety. Those living in slums and in apartment complexes have said they don’t feel safe stepping out of their homes after dark.”
Maintaining that their focus will be on women safety, both Atishi, and AAP’s Chandni Chowk candidate, Pankaj Gupta, promised to open dedicated police stations for women. Atishi, who is making her electoral debut this Lok Sabha elections, said, “A thorough survey will be conducted to identify all dark spots around East Delhi, following which proper lights will be installed in these areas. The number of PCR vans will be increased so that each municipal ward has access to at least four PCRs. We will open women’s police station to cater to women so that there is no fear of reporting crimes.”
Atishi, who is credited for her work in the school education sector, said her party is committed to open more higher education institutions in the constituency. “Despite the growing need, there are not enough higher education institutions in East Delhi. The constituency will get its own university campus so that students do not have to travel across in search of good colleges,” she said.

{{/usCountry}}Promising to upgrade the healthcare infrastructure, Atishi stressed on the problem of drugs in area.
“Drug de-addiction is a major concern in different pockets of East Delhi, including but not limited to Sarai Kale Khan, Nizamuddin, Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri etc. Drug de-addiction centres will be set up to help communities to resolve this problem,” the manifesto stated.
Gupta, who is pitted against Union environment minister Harsh Vardhan of the BJP, and veteran Congress leader, JP Aggarwal, has promised to address the congestion problem in his constituency, especially in the Walled City area. “Decongestion of major roads around Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Hauz Qazi, Lal Kuan will be our priority. There is a demand for easing traffic around schools, which we will try to address,” Gupta said.
With close to 27 mohalla clinics already operational in his constituency, Gupta said he will add 125 new clinics.
In the education sector, the party has promised rapid modernisation of all remaining schools, planned expansion of existing Delhi government schools and making provision for a third language —Urdu, Punjabi or Sanskrit.
