It took a drubbing by the state urban development minister Azam Khan for the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to use heavy-duty tiles on the pavements and paint dividers and road signs properly.
Khan, during his visit to Charbagh, Hazratganj and the King George’s Medical University ( KGMU), had expressed annoyance with the condition of the roads in these areas.
He had reportedly berated the LMC officials for the rising number of encroachments on roads, piling garbage, poor side lanes, broken tracks, illegal hoardings and absence of road signage on the route.
On Thursday, LMC officials decided to renovate all the signboards on the Hazratganj-Medical College route and repaint the dividers.
Municipal commissioner Rakesh Kumar Singh said, “Lucknow is a place where movement of VVIP’s is seen on a regular basis and it leaves a bad impression if sign boards are damaged or dividers are in a bad shape. I have also directed the officials to ensure that all the encroachments on the main road from Charbagh to the Medical College are removed.”
The LMC anti encroachment squad removed more than sixty temporary encroachments like vendors and roadside stall owners around Charbagh. On Wednesday, the LMC had removed around 50 encroachments on Hazratganj and Medical College route.
