The state cabinet on Tuesday decided to get a feasibility study conducted to run metro rail in four metropolitan towns – Kanpur Nagar, Agra, Meerut and Varanasi.Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav presided over the cabinet meeting that also approved the Uttar Pradesh Bio-technology Policy, 2014 along with a proposal to grant additional monthly honorarium to teachers of modern subjects in madarsas covered under the centrally sponsored madarsa modernisation scheme.
The cabinet decided to nominate RITES to conduct the feasibility study and prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for the metro rail projects.
The cabinet approved an amendment to its earlier decision that provided for appointment of consultant through competitive bidding. It also decided that respective development authorities would bear the expenses of preparation of the DPRs if the union government failed to provide 50% funds in accordance with the metro rail policy.
The biotechnology policy will make the state self-reliant in science and industry and give a boost to its economic development. Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh would work as the nodal agency to implement the policy.
