One of Lucknow’s most infamous gangsters is set to become a film star – his debut “Chabili” will hit the theatres on August 21, while another comedy is already in the pipeline.
Police said Lallu Yadav has 54 criminal cases against him, including four murders, seven attempted murders, and illegal possession of firearms.
But leaving the notoriety behind, Yadav is now looking forward to honing his acting chops and making it big in Bollywood.
Both movies were shot in Kakori and neighbouring areas, which is Yadav’s stronghold from where he allegedly controls various nefarious activities, police officials said.
He is a member of the area’s Zila Panchayat and his wife is the head of a block. “I have always had a fad for acting and thus, I decided to pursue it,” Yadav told Hindustan Times.
“The film (Chabili) is based on a girl dancer from Bihar and her rags to riches story.” Yadav said he got a chance to chase his dream of becoming an actor after meeting Mumbai-based director Sumit Chawla.
In “Chabili”, Yadav plays the role of the head of a development block and even sways his hips in a dance sequence. Yadav said though his role is short, he was satisfied with it because he plays an important character.

{{/usCountry}}The shooting of his second film, “Lucknow ka Bittu”, is ongoing. In this film, he plays the role of a minister alongside prominent Bollywood comedians Vijay Raaz and Rajpal Yadav.
For Lucknow Police, however, Yadav remains a criminal and a “listed history-sheeter”. Ashok Yadav, an officer of Talkatora police station, said the gangster has been registered as a leader of the “MD-1 gang” since 2007.
He said the aspiring film star was booked five times under the Goonda Act and at least six times under the Gangster Act.
