UP govt doesn’t want teachers of state-run schools to wear jeans, T-shirts

Teachers are expected not to talk on mobile phones during work hours and keep school premises neat and clean, ensuring pan or pan masala stains inside schools are cleaned.

The Uttar Pradesh government is against teachers of government-run secondary schools in Lucknow wearing T-shirts or jeans during work hours.

District inspector of schools (DIoS) Umesh Tripathi told HT that teachers should wear clothes suiting the dignity of the profession.

“Teachers should avoid such clothes which compromise the dignity of the profession,” Tripathi said.

He said the issue would be discussed with higher authorities before further directives. “Presently it is expected that teachers would avoid casuals like jeans and T-shirts to maintain the dignity of the profession as they are the most respected class of the society.”

Teachers are expected not to talk on mobile phones during work hours and keep school premises neat and clean, ensuring pan or pan masala stains inside schools are cleaned. Prayers in all schools has also been made compulsory.

The directives say that teachers should not have pan masala, tobacco, cigarettes or pan during the school besides ensuring that shops selling such products are not located near schools. If such shops are found, school administration must work with authorities to shut them down.
