Three patients died due to lack of emergency care at public hospitals even as government doctors returned to work on Sunday evening after 36 hours of strike in protest against the murder of chief medical officer BP Singh on April 2.
No ground has been broken in the killing case, however. The special task force (STF), which is looking into the murder of previous chief medical officer Vinod Arya also, and Lucknow police have formed separate teams to nab the assailants. Sketches of suspected assailants have been made on the basis of descriptions given by eyewitnesses.
There has been no breakthrough in Arya’s killing either.
Provincial Medical Services Association (PMSA) acting general secretary KS Pandey said, “The strike has been called off after assurance from health minister AK Mishra. If the assailants are not caught in the next few days, PMSA office-bearers will meet on April 11 to decide on further action.”
Doctors staged a demonstration near the mortuary, blocked roads and demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder. At least 75 operations were cancelled.

Saroj, who had gastroenteritis problems, died at the Balrampur hospital.
Meanwhile, UP Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi has written to chief minister Mayawati expressing concern at the murder.
