UP releases Rs 350cr pension dues to Uttarakhand

Pension dues amounting to Rs 350.79 crore owed by Uttar Pradesh government to Uttarakhand will be released to the latter in one go to help the flood-hit state in rebuilding efforts, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday. Akhilesh also announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh each to the families of the two officer skilled in chopper crash.

Pension dues amounting to Rs 350.79 crore owed by Uttar Pradesh government to Uttarakhand will be released to the latter in one go to help the flood-hit state in rebuilding efforts, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday.

The money was to be paid to Uttarakhand in installments after the creation of the hill state from united Uttar Pradesh. But in the wake of the widespread destruction caused by floods, the UP government has decided to pay the entire amount in a single installment, Akhilesh told reporters at a function here. Uttar Pradesh has already pledged a financial assistance of Rs 25 crore to Uttarakhand.

On this occasion, Jagatguru Kripaluji Maharaj’s representative Ram Puri handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the chief minister for Uttarakhand flood victims, while Samajwadi Party MLA Shadab Fatima donated Rs 1 lakh from her pay towards the CM’s calamity relief fund.

Replying to a question, the chief minister said the state government had asked all the district officials to identify the bodies found in rivers and make necessary arrangements for their cremation. He urged the people to get in touch with the state government’s control room to provide information about any missing persons.
