Intervening in a couple’s dispute landed a youth in hospital, as the irked husband opened fire on him here in a crowded Thakurganj locality on Sunday morning. The youth suffered bullet wound on his right hand and was admitted to KGMU’s trauma centre.
The victim was identified as Harikesh, 28, a resident of Daulatganj, Thakurganj. The police said Harikesh had a close save, as the bullet luckily hit his hand and did not damage any of the vital body parts.
According to police, the incident took place when the assailant Ganga Ram Maurya, who is victim’s neighbour, was quarrelling with his wife Ranjana Maurya over some issue. The couple came out on the street while fighting, following which Harikesh too came out of his house and tried to pacify the couple.
“Ganga Ram first objected to Harikesh’s intervention and asked the latter to keep away from his family issue. He later took out a countrymade firearm kept in his house and opened fire on Harikesh when he continued to intervene in the couple’s dispute,” said Samar Bahadur Yadav, station officer (SO) of Thakurganj police station.
He said the victim suffered bullet wound in his right hand and was rushed to the trauma centre by the locals. “His brother Mithilesh Kumar later lodged an FIR against Ganga Ram and his two sons Deepak and Kuldeep for attempt to murder. Ganga Ram has been arrested and the firearm used in the crime has been recovered while his two sons are missing after the incident.” Efforts were on to arrest Ganga Ram’s sons, he added.
