The third floor of the Palladium Phoenix Mall is now a haven for Instagram-happy gourmands. After the opening of The Social last month, modern pan-Asian bistro Pa Pa Ya has taken up a spot nearby, recently vacated by Rajdhani's Rasovara.
Opened by Massive Restaurants, which also runs the Masala Library in BKC, the restaurant interiors are dominated by 3D hexagons hovering from the ceiling and walls, which morph into tetrahedral atoms and change colour.
Pa Pa Ya serves up Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Cambodian food, but in a new format. Our favourite of their offerings were the edamame sliders, made with Japanese bao buns and slathered with wasabi mayonnaise. Sushi lovers should try the Sushi matrix, Pa Pa Ya's version of a sushi platter. Sushi is served atop a vertical wooden blocks with niches chiselled into it for sushi, gari, and house wasabi.
At the bar, or the "lab" as the bartenders insist on calling it, try the Lighthouse, a lemongrass-flavoured vodka flavoured with galangal syrup. The drink is served in a light bulb, a pretension we quickly forgave after tasting the drink. For whisky fans, we recommend the Wise Whiskey, which is a potent drink topped with rosemary foam to take the edge off.
