When it comes to scraping the bottom of the comedic barrel, Adam Sandler reigns supreme. Marking the eighth collaboration between the former Saturday Night Live entertainer and director Dennis Dugan, this sequel merely refashions the basic plot of the 2010 original. Scattershot situations and toilet humour accentuate how tawdry Grown Ups 2 is. Fret, then, at the shenanigans of a retired showbiz talent agent (Sandler, who also serves as co-writer and producer). He has relocated with his wife (Hayek) and three children to the town where he and his buddies (Chris Rock – David Spade) grew up. In the opening scene, a deer wanders into the family’s home and urinates on our ‘hero’s’ face.
The proceedings get more loathsome. With blatant disregard for comic timing, the script introduces several subsidiary characters including crazy cops, a gay physical instructor and curvy car-wash attendants.
Just in case you venture into this atrocity, be informed that brains can be checked in at the foyer of the multiplex.
