Review: Gauri, the unborn child

Even if you ingnore the regressive outlook of this horror khichdi, there’s nothing much going on here, writes Khalid Mohamed.

Here’s a perfectly obnoxious kid. She devours slabs of chocolate, screams her lungs out and dances to the beat of Bidi jalaiyle on the CD player. And she becomes even more obnoxious. The malevolent spirit of her badididi invades her body and threatens to kill her asap. Yikes.

The big sister was aborted, it seems, by parents Atul Kulkarni and Rituparna Sengupta (not the Kolkata director). They wanted to focus on their blossoming careers. Sengupta is only seen placing fruit into a mixer but well maybe she’s into orange juice exports or something.

The aborted child now wants vengeance, revenge, badla, vendetta, the works. Result: director Aku Akbar’s Gauri The Unborn Child, which inadvertently serves as an anti-abortion harangue.

Even if you ingnore the regressive outlook of this horror khichdi, there’s nothing much going on here. Unless, you count the angry kid’s hair which keeps flying as if she were standing near the biggest table fan in the world.

For some mysterious reason, Kulkarni gets into the sexy mode, frequently pouncing on his wife and displaying himself semi-nude (no competition to Salman bhai). As for Sengupta, she looks frightened as if the child were about to spoil her many layers of make-up.

A strange, B-grade effort, this ghost-o-rama sends you screaming out of the auditorium for fresh air and sanity. Worth a skip.
