According to the police, the first incident, involving a 28-year-old manager, took place on September 7. “The caller told me I had got reward points for making maximum use of my credit card. He asked for my card details and one-time password (OTP) to credit money to my account,” the complainant said.

“I was disturbed as a family member had passed away recently. I didn’t think much and gave the OTP in a hurry. Within minutes, Rs33,500 was debited from my account. The bank refused to return my money, claiming I was at fault. I approached the police complaint as I don’t want others to be cheated.”
