The police has booked a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) bus driver for causing death due to negligence, after a 24-year-old man came under the rear tyre of his vehicle and died in Powai on Saturday morning.

The incident took place near the Milind Nagar signal at Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). The victim, Rakesh Patil, suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Rajawadi Hospital. However, he was declared dead before admission.
An FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Rakesh’s father, Nandlal, 65. Rakesh resided with his parents in Powai. “Nandlal had two sons and a daughter. After his first son’s death, Rakesh was the sole bread winner,” the police said.
However, the accused has not yet been arrested as two of the three witnesses said they saw the victim jump in front of the bus. The third witness said the victim was run over by the bus driver.
