3 held for stealing ₹4.5 lakh from ex-teacher

The police are yet to trace two others in connection with the case.

The Dahisar police on Wednesday arrested three men from Bangalore who allegedly stole gold ornaments and cash worth Rs4.5 lakh from the home of a 62-year-old former school teacher in Dahisar (East). The police are yet to trace two others in connection with the case.

The men, Mohan Singh, Darshan Dayuva and Santosh Rawal are from Nepal.

Police said the victim, Kusum Maurya lives alone in Subham Society in Shakti Nagar.The incident occurred when she went to her daughter’s house, away from the city, for a few days in September.

Mohan used to work at a store opposite Maurya’s building. As she regularly bought groceries at the store, he was aware that she lived alone and had gone to meet her daughter. The three accused broke the lock of the flat and fled with valuables worth Rs4.5 lakh including gold ornaments, cash and a mobile phone.

The accused sold the mobile to one of their friends, a security guard who is also from Nepal. The incident came to light after Maurya returned on September 24 and registered an FIR with the Dahisar police, said a police officer.

The police traced the accused’s mobile phone Bangalore, where a police team was dispatched.
